India will achieve the goal of ‘net-zero’ emissions by 2070, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced during his address to world leaders at the COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow on Monday.

印度总理纳伦德拉·莫迪周一在格拉斯哥举行的COP26气候变化峰会上向世界领导人发表讲话时宣布，印度将在2070年实现“净零”排放的目标。

So, what is net-zero? In simple terms, net-zero means that greenhouse gas emissions pumped into the atmosphere by humans need to be bnced by the creation of new carbon sinks (like forests) to absorb an equivalent amount.

什么是净零呢？简而言之，净零排放意味着人类排放到大气中的温室气体需要通过创造新的碳汇(如森林)来平衡，以吸收同等数量的温室气体。

Scientists have said global emissions need to roughly halve by 2030 and reach ‘net-zero’ by 2050. Most nations have agreed to the 2050 deadline. China aims to achieve the goal by 2060.

科学家们表示，到2030年，全球碳排放需要减半，到2050年达到“净零”。大多数国家都同意2050年的这一最后期限。中国的目标是到2060年实现这一目标。

Experts say achieving ‘net-zero’ emissions is important as it is the best way to tackle climate change by reducing global warming.

The measures taken towards limiting emissions over the next decade will be critical to the future.
